Complete Electric Refit – Tridente 19S

From a 40 hp petrol-powered sloop to a purpose-built 48 V electric commercial rental vessel with custom LiFePO4, Victron power, ePropulsion and remote tracking.

The brief

From 40 hp petrol propulsion to a purpose-built electric rental vessel.

The Tridente 19S had previously been used as a fast-planing sloop with a 40 hp Suzuki outboard. Schiedambootverhuur.nl acquired the vessel without its engine, creating the opportunity to design the propulsion and onboard electrical system from the ground up.

The new installation was built specifically around commercial rental use: predictable operating time, straightforward onboard monitoring, robust electrical protection and remote fleet visibility.

Battery engineering & fabrication

Built from individual LiFePO4 cells, not from an off-the-shelf drop-in battery.

A 48 V nominal, 405 Ah LiFePO4 bank was assembled from individual cells. The build included cell heating elements, BMS integration, full high-current cabling and protection, and a custom enclosure fabricated specifically for the vessel.

Scope completed in-house: battery architecture, cell assembly, heating, enclosure fabrication, cabling, terminations, protection, BMS integration and installation.

Power, charging & control

Integrated onboard power and propulsion controls.

The system combines electric propulsion with a 48 V onboard power architecture. Victron equipment provides charging/inverter functionality and battery monitoring, while the ePropulsion control system gives the operator a clear propulsion interface.

Tracking & fleet functionality

Live vessel data, geofencing and remote control functions.

A Teltonika FMC920 tracker was integrated with Traccar and an external server for live data sharing. The setup supports geofencing and remote motor-control functionality, providing additional oversight for a vessel used in unattended rental operation.

The tracking layer is independent of the basic propulsion system and can also be supplied as a standalone solution for other private or commercial vessels.

Operational result

Approximately 75 km practical range at rental speed.

At approximately 7.5 km/h, the completed vessel can operate for around 10 hours under the stated test/operating condition — equivalent to roughly 75 km of practical range. This gives the rental operator a full-day operating window without relying on a conventional petrol outboard.
